“If I have seen further, it is by standing upon the shoulders of giants” – Sir Isaac Newton When Chris Reynolds co-founded Investment Planning Counsel in 1996, he set out on a mission to help entrepreneurial financial advisors build better businesses. Since then, he’s remained steadfast in this mission. Chris believes that at the heart of any great business is remarkable client experience: how you meet the needs of your clientele, how you evolve with them as they change and, ultimately, how you leave your clients feeling about you after every single interaction they’ve had with you and your business. A life-long learner, Chris is always learning from the best of the best – from within our industry and from outside. In his podcast, Turning the Page, Chris will bring you the stories, the lessons, and the winning ideas from the people who have made it and from those who are reshaping the future of financial advice.

It’s crazy to think we’re already talking about 2025, but here we are! As we start to wrap up the year, we start to look back at what we accomplished (or didn’t!) this year and start to think about what the new year will look like.
We dream big. We might even plan big. But how do we make the big vision, the big quest happen? How do we take action on our ideas? How can we get out of our own way and not just say next year will be the best, but actually MAKE it the best?
Today’s guest is here to help us set the table for the new year and show us the way.
Gregg Brown is a globally recognized change and future of work expert and best-selling author who combines storytelling, audience engagement and research-based insights to empower teams to be future ready and thrive in the future of work.
Gregg was recently named one of the Top 50 Global Thought Leaders on Change Management.
Gregg’s new book, “Spark Action: How to Lead Change That Matters” is an Amazon #1 Bestseller and recommended as one of the top thought-leader books to read in 2024 by Thinkers360.
Also - Gregg was part of the groundbreaking team that opened the first wave of Starbucks in Canada. You know how much I love the Starbucks business model; I even did a whole podcast about what we can learn from Starbucks!

Monday Oct 28, 2024
Monday Oct 28, 2024
Even though our business is about dollars and cents, when it’s all said and done, working in the financial advice industry is about the people, our clients that we work hard to help make their goals happen and make good choices in their financial lives. We might be able to look at a portfolio and be analytical and logical, but we all know that people can get emotional and make some very bad decisions based on their feelings and preconceived notions.
How do we understand what our clients are feeling? How do we know how to handle these situations and work with them when emotions run rampant? Especially when it can be contrary to their own future well being?
To understand this topic better, on today’s show we will get to talk about the psychology of financial planning with Dr. Meghaan Lurtz. EP 67: The Three Books That Changed the Way Chris Reynolds Thinks
Monday Oct 14, 2024
Monday Oct 14, 2024
I have used the phrase “I have seen more because I have stood on the shoulders of giants” many times on this podcast. The giants that I have stood on have all have all been great authors of great books. You can learn almost anything if you just take the time to find out who has done the most amount of research on a particular topic and then read everything they have written.
Today, I’m sharing with you the three books that taught me something that changed the trajectory of not only my business, but my life.

Often on the podcast, I talk about how important your online presence is when it comes to building a successful business. Your potential clients start online to gather information. If you can build trust with a potential client before they even pick up the phone, you’ve won half the battle.
Today we’re talking to someone who has done just that - Patrick Briscoe. He’s using the internet and social tools to build a modern day financial advisory business.
You’re going to learn how he’s done it and how you can start using the same tools for your business today.
Patrick Briscoe is a Financial Planner at Bayswater Wealth Management with IPC. He embarked on his financial advisory career in 2011 after a transformative teaching stint in London, England. Combining his educational expertise and passion for finance, Patrick naturally transitioned into the financial industry upon his return to Canada and quickly established himself as a trusted advisor, helping Canadians from coast to coast plan for and live through retirement.
Patrick Briscoe is also a co-author in the forthcoming books, entitled Financial Success for Pre-Retirees and Financial Success for Retirees.

One of the things I love the most is watching fellow entrepreneurs build a great business within our organization that changes not only their life but lives of their clients.
One of those success stories is our Dan Nolan. Dan has been a professional financial advisor in Ottawa since 1992. He was on the show back in August 2022 where we discussed how to have tough conversations with your clients in a market downturn and how to show them the opportunities in those moments.
Since then, Dan has transitioned out of his business and is now the Vice President, Corporate Growth & Development for IPC. He’s one of the leaders inside our Pinnacle program and helping to grow the next generation of financial advisors!
Dan’s here today to talk about his own journey as a financial advisor, how he built and executed his succession plan and how he’s using those 30+ years of experience to help shape the next generation of advisors.
